Text Box: Woodturner, Captain Eddie Castelin, works out of his small shop just outside of New Orleans in the community of Old Jefferson.  From this small shop he turns out all sorts of work including wooden hats, hand turned pens, walking canes, bowls, bottle stoppers and other art of the turning world.  Captain Eddie would rather be referred to as a "Woodturner" rather than artist.
Working with both local and exotic woods, as many woodturners do, but also adding the added touch of anything that spins.  This includes; brass, copper, plastics, acrylic, corian, hymax and other solid surface materials.  This adds a different dimension to his work.
The Captain has also added wooden hats to his list of works in progress.  Learning the process from Johannes Michelsen, Eddie uses Louisiana woods to create wearable works of art.
Captain Eddie has also created a series of rose engine lathes known as Lathezilla.  Originally designed to be portable, Lathezilla can be moved, but only as a last resort.  The ornamental lathe is capable of producing more than 90 different patterns in three dimensions on most types of work.
On this site you will find a fine selection of turned writing instruments from the finest woods - a few other materials.
