AKA Cap'n Eddie Castelin
I'm the guy who lives down the street who can do just about anything with practically everything. I like to keep busy doing just about anything outside the house. I'm a Louisiana Master Gardener and my lawn and gardens are a work in progress.
I've spent almost 50 years in the construction industry as a Cabinet Maker, Carpenter, Superintendent, Designer and now with a large group of architects in New Orleans. I have my name on over 300 projects in this area and am proud of all but one. (which one changes on a daily basis)
Where do I get so much time to spend in the shop? I've never watched a ball game or golf on TV, I do like to have NASCAR on in the background when I'm turning. You don't really have to listen and it finishes just about the time I need to take a break. Anyway, it's only the last lap you need to see. I spend my afternoons in the shop or garden working on something or another.
In 2010 I turned a few pieces of wood into art, over 600 pens for Freedom Pen Foundation, and over 300 other items, including some really nice ornamental work on an ornamental lathe I built see Lathezilla page.
I'm a pretty good welder, machinist and fitter.
I'm always trying to find something new to do. I try anything I see and love to be practical. It's in my nature.
I've been a member of The Bayou Woodturners for over 12 years. I was President for 6 years, took 2 years off and now I'm back as President beginning in January 2011. This is a great group of woodturners with some fantastic talent.
I've learned a lot from this group and I often share that information through YouTube and this website.
You can learn a lot from a woodturning club, find one in your area and join in.
