I've heard that wodturners from around the world want a better deal on Cutters and bars.  I worked with Brendan Woodruff of Austrailia to develop a package that you may be interested in.
This is a package of three (cutter bars - 1/2" square, 3/8" square and 3/8" round, with Two square cutters - and Three round cutters.
The bars are just under 10" long and they fit in a small one-price box from the USPS. To most locations this is about $14.00 freight.

This is a version of the Blackhawk sharpening rig I developed for International Shipping.  I can ship it for a two pound weight instead of the 6 pounds for the regular rig.

I created my version of a rose engine lathe, normally called an ornamental lathe.  This can be built by most good welders or fitters.  I have built several versions over a long 3 day weekend. 

I will sell you a set of drawings, showing every measurement, detail and accessory needed to create some of the most exciting turnings you'll ever see.  Included with the drawings is a shopping list of all the items needed and the resource for those parts and pieces.  Also, sample templates, many of which can be purchased from other ornamental lathe manufacturers in the US. 

This is not a project for the squeemish, this unit weighs about 120# when complete, but is capable of work that disappeared from our world over 150 years ago.  You will be able to "run with the big dogs" of ornamental turning when you finish this project.

About a dozen years ago I was doing segmented work and started working with a layout template because I couldn't get the sizes right and was wasting wood.  I had a version of MiniCad for work as a designer and decided to create my own layout template.

I started with eight points and then increased to 16.  I did another in the 3 range and did a 3, 6, 12, 24 layout.(shown)  Then I did a 5, 10, 20 layout and so on. (flip side, not shown)

I have incorporated all of these templates into one master, one side is the 6 layout (6/12/24) and the other covers 4 (4/8/16)& 5 (5/10/20) layout.  It is laminated in heavy duty plastic so it's ready for the shop.  You can mark on it with dry erase markers or grease pencil.
